Variations in IVF
Microinjection
Intracytoplasmatic Sperm Injections or microinjection (ICSI) is used when the sperm sample is very depressed in terms of sperm count or motility. The procedure is simple and does not create any risk or harm to the oocyte.
Cryopreservation of embryos
Fertilized and cleaved oocytes (embryos) of good quality that do exceed the embryos to be replaced can be cryopreserved to be used in a later procedure.
Epididymal aspiration or testicular biopsy
In the situation where the thin tube that transports the sperm from the testicles is damaged resulting in a sperm sample not containing any sperms there is a possibility to extract sperms directly from the epididymis or the testicle.
Assisted Hatching (AHA)
Assisted hatching is a technique used to improve the implantation of the embryo.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical procedure, which is now being re-evaluated in the West. IVF Öresund is one of few clinics offering Electro Acupuncture as part of the treatment.
Hormonal stimulation
In some couples the only reason for infertility is an ovulatory dysfunction. This can be corrected with appropriate ovulation induction, often without need for more extensive procedures like IVF.
Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a disease that can affect both the ovaries and the tubes, causing fertility problems.
Oocyte donation
Legislation will allow Oocyte Donation in Sweden from the beginning of 2003. The application of this law is presently an object of discussion.
IVF Öresund has fully developed technical resources to perform Oocyte Donation, as soon as appropriate instructions are worked out.
